Fast paced story with good characters. Our heroin has a lot of grit and is no shrinking violet. Just wish the story had an epilogue. I'd like to see more of these people.  — Jmdel

Very well written, good gripping characters. The tension was good all the way through to the end. I really enjoyed this book. —Anna (Ireland)

Very good book it kept me turning the page till the very end I would recommend this book to others. —Cedric

I loved this book and could barely put it down. It reminded me of the shows I like on TV where you wonder if things will work out OK in the end. I plan to read more of this author's books. —Diane

Love a book with psychics....action, love, suspense. Great characters, good plot. Good everything. Would definitely reccomend this to anyone I know —Debbi

This is a great suspense novel. It kept me guessing right until the end and the intertwining stories made it all the better! —Ami

Hated to put the book down. Characters we're interesting.I loved the dog and cat. I laughed at all the problems Rollins had. Good book. —Linda

Humans are the only creatures on earth with the intellligence to speak and we are constantly dumming ourselves down by the use of profanity. I read three words on the first page that I don't use and considered if the remainder of the book followed the same suit I didn't need to read it at all!! --LHS

Very interesting take on the mytical and just a fun read. Definitely held my attention. I would read more from this author. —Karen

A little too simple but it moved well. The addition of the dog seemed contrived as did the "dumb" boxer. --Laurna

First book I have read in one day. Could not put it down until it ended. A typical damsel in distress, knight in shining armor rescue, but still enjoyed the storyline in spite of. The fact it was borrowed from Kindle Library, for free I might add, made it that much better!!!  —Posey-Rosey

Really enjoyed this book! Lots of action and romance. Great characters. Couldn't wait to see how it ended. Would highly recommend. —Atabarac

Even when I wasn't reading I would find myself wondering where the most recent twist would lead to....I highly recommend this book. —Michelle

Very good RS. This was fast paced and kept me completely confused as to what was really going on. I just couldn't figure out who was out to kill Claire and why. Riley was a great hero with a dark past. Claire was strong and independent and had to be involved in solving this mystery. They made a great team. —elgato

Great book, couldn't put it down. Kept me interested and intrigued all the way through. Would recommend this book to others.  —Heather

The first part of the book was excellent. It has good character development and interested the reader with the plot. However, at the end, it turned into a boring, boring ending that had very little to do with the characters, Claire and Riley! I would recommend that the author should have QUICKLY reached the connection between Claire's father and the involvement with her mother, and THEN, focused on what this meant to the Claire/Riley relationship. The book became boring and rambled on endlessly with the 'mafia' stuff. Mistletoe became less enchanting in the end. :( —t

I would rate th is book highly. I liked the character development. I could relate to the shop owner. The book w a s suspenseful. I would give this book a 4 star rating. —Lance

I highly recommend this book. A great book that held my interest from the first sentence to the very end. The author got right into the story. I look forward to read another book by this author. —Gertrude

Ellis Vidler had my attention from the first page! I kept turning and turning the pages to see what will be happening next. The heroin was life like and turned out to be a strong likeable character. As for her male counterpart...just as human with his own demons to work through! The other characters were all interesting and this books lends it self to a sequel! I absolutely loved the end! This is fast paced book with strong characters and a lot of intrigue! —Werkobie

This was a quick read. I really like the author's writing style (easy to read). The ending was a little expected, but I still enjoyed reading it. Plenty of action to keep me entertained. —Linda

This is the third Ellis Vidler book I've read and I love it just as much as the other two. I love her writing style. This book kept me completely engrossed so much that I kept reading until I was finished. I really like her stories. They're not the same as your standard romance novel, but they are girly enough to keep you interested. I can't wait for the next one to come out. Hopefully in the spring(?). —Dayna

HAUNTING REFRAIN is the kind of mystery that grabs you with the first sentence and doesn't let go until the last word. Passages of humor and romance break up the constant tension created by the killer. The characters are totally human and believable in their flaws and imperfections. . . . If you crave a good mystery, HAUNTING REFRAIN will satisfy your habit. Enjoy!
--Jo Rogers, MyShelf.Com

Quirky, engaging characters. . . . Both Venice and Kate are charmers!
--Toby Bromberg, Romantic Times Book Club

Based on the reviews, I reeeally wanted to like this book. I was disappointed in this book. I dont understand why this book was made into an e-book. It should be removed from the romance section. The protagonist was unlikeable and not someone I could ever root for. I felt bad for the romantic interest / reporter - the only likeable character. . . (there's more) —Outlook

Vidler explores the psychic world without resorting to the "all will be revealed" solution and bypasses the old difficulty of psychic mysteries: if you're psychic, why can't you see the killer. A page-turner.
--Anna Ashwood Collins, Jekyll's Golden Islander

An interesting premise, with easy-to-read prose and slightly offbeat characters, makes this first novel a good choice for readers who like a bit of the paranormal in their mysteries.

Tea in the Afternoon

Tea in the Afternoon
Three short stories. “Charmingly southern”

I've read them all, and they are wonderful stories full of charm, pathos, and wit. They're reminders of genteel
times past. The characters burst off the page as do the settings. I'm usually
not a short story reader, but I loved these. —Polly Iyer,  author

Ellis does such a great job of painting a story - the dialogue, setting, characters. I became lost in the stories and jealous of her ability to write so well. A joy to read.  --Helen

“A nice quick read”
I only read short stories now and then but this collection is a nice change of pace. Reading this was like enjoying a nice glass of tea with a friend.   —Icequeen

“Genuine Southern Charm”
The characters in these three stories seemed as real to me as the people on my  street. The stories are warm and human and somehow manage to be both universal and disitinctly southern. —Sandra Cody, author

Reviews for The Peeper

The Peeper by Jim Christopher and Ellis Vidler
This will probably remain one of my favorite books for a long time. It was suspensful. It was a mystery. It had romance. It had friendship and caring. It had police procedures and investigations. I really had a hard time putting it down. I felt like I knew all the characters, it was written that well. I'd love to see these characters again in another book. This was team writing at its best. I highly recommend reading this. —Loves to read

This is one of those rare finds, with unforgettable and unique characters that a reader doesn't discover often. These two authors are truly amazing. Jim Christopher is a retired Major with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, SLED. His experience and expertise on police procedural, along with Ellis, already a published author of HAUNTING REFRAIN, deliver an impossible to put down read. The protagonist will not be easily forgotten. —Brenda King

Peepers is a wonderful book. Captivating right from the start. I too think it would be an awesome movie. There was such an incredible connection between the characters and the reader. I couldn't wait to read what happened next. Many readers will enjoy Peepers because it has a little bit of everything ....mystery, suspense, humor and relationships. I hope you bring back Elliot, Jeremy, Fullerton and Kay in your future books. They are great characters that readers will want more of. Congratulations Jim and Ellis on your first masterpiece. I loved it and highly recommend it. —Janet Fuller

I just finished this truly amazing story! What a captivating read. I couldn't put it down. It would be a great thriller for a movie! Thanks Chris & Ellis ...hope you working on the next one! Way to go! —Steve Fuller

I don't read a lot of novels like my wife does, because so many are boring, predictable, and/or forgettable. But, not with this one! I read it every moment I wasn't tied up with 'must dos' until I finished. Christopher's police and investigative background really are instrumental to the story and characters. I enjoyed every edge-of-the-seat moment. This would be a great big-screen or made-for-TV movie -- not like most of the special effects enhanced crap on the screen these days. There are no exploding cars, trains, etc. or weird junk; just a great story, with believable, well defined characters and a few twists and turns. Looking forward to the next book from these two! — James A. Hopkins

I'm waiting Mr. Christopher...for your next book! I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and it's a steal on the Kindle. I'll admit the title made me a little hesitant, but this mystery hooked me from the start, and I appreciated the unlikely and unusual protagonist. I'm trying to be patient, but really, I want another! —Tricia

I couldn't put it down. The collaboration of storytelling and writing was superb.I enjoyed the mystery, the characters, the romance, all of it. Great job, I only hope you will do more! I am buying one for my son-in-law. He is in law enforcement, I know he will love it. Thanks for sharing your talent with us! —Gwen Thompson

This book was so intense; I could not put it down! It is so well written and keeps you in suspense during the entire book. I loved the characters: Elliot, Kay, and Sam. The ending was my very favorite part of all! Keep writing!  * I bought a copy for my sister and mom!:) —Lynn

At first I was questionable about what it was my mom was asking me to read it. However, I continued on, and found the book very detailed, it kept me thinking. I feel those in the profession could truly respect where the book came from and those not in it would enjoy the insider information. I read it constantly to the finish, just wish the chapters weren't so small. —Erin Mc

I would love to see this book made into a movie! Once I started this book I could not put it down. . . . Christopher mixes his vast knowledge of criminal investigations along with humor and relationships to uncover a brilliant work of fiction! —Sara Margaret
