About Ellis... | |
![]() | Ellis has been chewing on her pen for days, trying to figure out what to say here. She's written and told stories all her life (you could ask her mother about that); she edits fiction and technical work; she's had articles published and written numerous training manuals. But this assignment is really tough. By way of background, Ellis grew up in Alabama in Florence (where she went to Coffee High) and Huntsville (Huntsville High). In Florence, she lived in the setting of Pat Cunningham DeVoto's book, My Last Days as Roy Rogers. She and her friends spent carefree summers roaming through White Rock Bottom and along the banks of the Tennessee River. No wonder Pat DeVoto wrote about it--it was such an innocent, magical time. Her next stop was All Saints College in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where she got by with a healthy shove from Fathers Allin and Egbert. After moving to South Carolina, Ellis worked as an editor, a technical writer, and a training specialist. She was fortunate enough to take several creative writing classes from Scott Regan, a really great teacher; and in 1990, she won the South Carolina Writers Conference prize for short fiction for "Restitution." She is currently a member of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers of America, and South Carolina Writers Workshop. With that said, she hopes you'll go on to the other pages in her website and be interested enough to buy her book, Haunting Refrain, which is now available from Silver Dagger Mysteries, an imprint of the Overmountain Press. It's a romantic southern mystery about a woman, Kate McGuire, who's struggling to get her photography business off the ground. Under decidedly peculiar circumstances, she sees a murder being committed. Does anyone except the killer believe her? Of course not--that's why there's a story.
